EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing
EMDR is a form of integrative psychotherapy used to treat trauma. The client is asked to recall specific memories whilst the therapist uses bilateral stimulation such as eye movements or tapping to help the client reprocess the memory to a more adaptive resolution. On average it takes 6-10 sessions to reprocess one memory. I have used EMDR to help clients reprocess sexual assaults, suicide attempts, accidents and bullying to mention but a few traumas that clients have come to get help with.
