Personalised Counselling and Psychotherapy for Individuals

Individual Therapy

What to Expect from Therapy

I meet with clients weekly, at a consistent time and place, to provide a stable and supportive framework for the therapeutic process. Where appropriate, I can also offer twice-weekly sessions, particularly during periods where additional support may be helpful. Towards the end of therapy I start to see clients less frequently often cutting down to fortnightly and on occasion monthly.

Our initial session will be an assessment. This allows me to gain a full understanding of your history, explore the challenges you're currently facing, and discuss what you hope to achieve through therapy and whether I feel I am the appropriate therapist for your situation. It also provides an opportunity for you to get a sense of how I work and to ask any questions you may have.

In our ongoing sessions, I offer a safe, non-judgemental, and compassionate space where we can explore your experiences at a pace that feels right for you. Drawing from a range of therapeutic approaches, I tailor our work to support your unique needs and goals. I believe each individual who comes to see me is unique and needs a tailored approach. I fit approaches to clients and not the other way round always holding your autonomy and best interests at the heart of my interventions.

I have a relational approach and first and foremost believe in developing a therapeutic relationship with you. My own personal experience is that people can not grow and make changes when they do not feel safe and for that reason I am authentic and do not hide behind a "professional or clinical mask". I value the relationships I form with my clients and feel privileged to be part of their journey.

If you're looking for a dedicated, experienced, and knowledgeable Psychotherapist, please don’t hesitate to get in touch in confidence:

Specialised EMDR sessions designed for deep trauma processing and rapid healing.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a highly effective, evidence-based therapy designed to help people process and resolve traumatic experiences. It is commonly used to treat PTSD and Complex PTSD (C-PTSD), but is also helpful for a wide range of distressing life experiences.

During EMDR sessions, clients are supported in bringing specific traumatic memories to mind while engaging in bilateral stimulation—such as guided eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones. This process helps the brain reprocess the memory and move it towards a more adaptive, less distressing resolution.

While every individual’s experience is different, it typically takes around 6 to 10 sessions to work through a single traumatic memory.

I use EMDR to support clients with:

  • Single-incident trauma (e.g. accidents, medical incidents or negligence, assault or traumatic bereavement)

  • Complex or attachment trauma related to:

  • Childhood abuse or neglect

  • Repeated sexual assault

  • Bullying

  • Emotional invalidation

  • Developmental trauma

  • Chronic health conditions

  • Phobias

EMDR can be used as part of ongoing therapy or offered in more intensive blocks, depending on your needs. I offer EMDR intensive sessions from 10-1pm or 10-4pm on select Sundays in person.

Getting Started

What is the best way to get in touch?
The quickest and most reliable way to contact me is via email which is jodie@mainstonecounselling.com
For administrative matters, my PA can be reached at
kim@mainstonecounselling.com

What if I’m unsure about counselling or therapy?
If you're uncertain whether therapy is right for you, feel free to send me a brief email outlining your concerns. While I’m unable to offer free introductory calls due to the busy nature of my practice, I’ll do my best to offer guidance via email.

What if you are fully booked?
I maintain a small waiting list, which I temporarily close when I’m unable to offer appointments in a reasonable timeframe. If the list is open, you're welcome to join it. Please let me know if you wish to be removed from the list.

Where appropriate, I offer referrals to trusted professionals. I only recommend therapists who are qualified, registered, and accredited, and whose approach I believe aligns with your best interests.

When seeking therapy elsewhere, please ensure the professional you choose is registered with a recognised counselling or psychotherapy body, abides by an ethical code, and is subject to a complaints process.

What if I can’t afford your fees?
Please email me to discuss your circumstances. In some cases, I’m able to offer reduced fees.
